Imperial authorities suspect that this species might be an ancient Tyranid swarm that became stranded and effectively feral. They are a distinct Genestealer strain of a yet-unidentified source, and even though they have been eradicated from Ymgarl, they have spread throughout the Imperium via tramp freighters and space hulks.
